There is some controversy as to just whether or not Simon Barker and Nathan Parker were among the founders of Westfield, but the original plot record is clear that Asa Bales, Ambrose Osborne and Simon Moon WERE there at the founding. Members of the Wesleyan Methodist Church or Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), these men probably founded Westfield to be a stop on the Underground Railroad in 1834.
Subsequent to formal incorporation in 2008, Westfield has grown significantly due to both annexations and residential influx. With an estimated current population of 30,000—and no end of growth in site—Westfield stands poised to undertake a major revamp of its downtown area, which may well involve a new City Hall and public library.
